Hyderabad Hit-and-Run Tragedy: Speeding Truck Drags Scooter for Two Kilometers, Claims Young Woman's Life
A late-night outing turned into a horrific tragedy in Hyderabad on Saturday when a speeding goods carrier rammed into a scooter carrying a newlywed couple and dragged the two-wheeler for approximately two kilometers. The devastating incident resulted in the death of a young woman and left her husband with serious injuries.
Victims Identified as Newlywed Couple from Kerala
The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Haniya Ayesha. Her husband, 26-year-old Abdul Basith, who works as an export in-charge at Maheshwaram, sustained significant injuries to his left arm and other parts of his body. He is currently undergoing medical treatment at a private hospital.
According to police reports, the couple, originally from Kerala, were returning to their home in Maheshwaram after watching a movie at Kukatpally Lakeshore Mall. The accident occurred around 11:30 pm near the Mindspace underpass in Madhapur.
Horrific Sequence of Events: Collision, Dragging, and Chase
The collision happened when a DCM vehicle, allegedly driven at high speed and in a negligent manner, struck the couple's two-wheeler. The impact was so severe that it threw both riders onto the road while their scooter became lodged underneath the truck.
Tragically, the driver failed to stop the vehicle and continued driving toward Jubilee Hills, dragging the scooter for nearly two kilometers. Alert locals noticed sparks from the dragging scooter and immediately gave chase. They managed to intercept the truck near the Jubilee checkpoint.
Driver Flees, Cleaner Apprehended by Police
During the confrontation, the driver identified as Arif fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. The cleaner was apprehended by locals who, in their anger, allegedly assaulted him before police intervention. Law enforcement officials later took the cleaner into custody.
The injured couple was rushed to a private hospital where doctors pronounced Haniya dead upon arrival. Her husband Abdul Basith remains under medical care for his injuries.
Police Investigation Underway
Hyderabad police have seized both vehicles involved in the accident and launched an intensive search operation to locate the absconding driver. A formal case has been registered, and a comprehensive investigation is currently in progress to determine the exact circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
This heartbreaking event has highlighted serious concerns about road safety and driver accountability in Hyderabad's busy urban areas, particularly during late-night hours when visibility and attention may be compromised.
