Hyderabad Traffic Police Intensify Crackdown on Drunk Driving
In a decisive move to enhance road safety, traffic police across Hyderabad conducted rigorous special drives targeting drunk drivers over the weekend. The coordinated enforcement action, carried out on Friday and Saturday, resulted in the booking of a substantial 828 offenders for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Detailed Breakdown of Offenses Across Zones
The crackdown was executed systematically across three major traffic zones within the city. Hyderabad traffic police led the effort, apprehending 464 drivers. Among these, the majority were two-wheeler riders, with 408 cases recorded. Additionally, 30 three-wheeler drivers and 26 four-wheeler drivers were found violating drunk driving laws.
In the Cyberabad zone, authorities arrested 205 offenders, while Malkajgiri reported 159 cases. This widespread enforcement highlights the police's commitment to curbing this dangerous behavior throughout the metropolitan area.
Blood Alcohol Concentration Levels and Legal Consequences
Police reports indicate that most offenders had blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels ranging between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. A smaller, yet concerning, number of individuals were found with BAC levels exceeding 300 mg/100 ml, indicating severe intoxication.
All 828 offenders will be produced before the court to face legal proceedings. Authorities have emphasized that strict enforcement will continue with a zero-tolerance policy towards drunken driving. In a stern warning, police clarified that causing fatal accidents while under the influence of alcohol will attract charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This provision carries severe penalties, including up to 10 years of imprisonment and substantial fines.
