Hyderabad: In a tragic case of alleged abetment to suicide, Bachupally police have arrested a 30-year-old housewife and her lover for driving her husband to take his own life. The arrests were made on April 21, but the case gained public attention on Thursday when a family member of the deceased brought it to the media's notice.
The Accused and the Victim
The accused are a 30-year-old housewife from Bachupally and M Ramana Reddy, a 35-year-old restaurant operator from Shamshabad. The victim, S Seetharam Reddy, was a 36-year-old software professional. On January 24, the woman left home while her husband was out and did not return. Following a complaint from Seetharam, a missing person report was filed at Bachupally police station the same day.
The Suicide and Investigation
On February 8, Seetharam ended his life by jumping into Hussain Sagar. Based on his WhatsApp status, family members searched the lake and surrounding areas. The next day, his body was recovered from the lake. In his complaint to the police, Seetharam's father, S Venkateshwar Reddy, alleged that his son took his own life because of his daughter-in-law's actions.
According to the complaint, Seetharam discovered that his wife was having an affair with Ramana Reddy, who had posted private videos of her on Instagram on September 19, 2025. Seetharam and his wife subsequently lodged a complaint against Ramana Reddy with Shamshabad police, leading to his arrest. Following this, the woman went to stay with her parents but returned to live with her husband in Bachupally in November 2025 after family intervention.
However, she left home again without informing anyone, leaving Seetharam deeply distressed. 'Due to the behaviour of his wife and others, including Ramana Reddy, my son took his own life by jumping into the lake,' Venkateshwar Reddy alleged in his complaint.
Legal Action
Based on the complaint, Lake police registered a case under Section 108 (abetment to suicide) of the BNS on February 9 and transferred it to Bachupally police. Bachupally police re-registered the case under the same section in March. 'We arrested Seetharam's wife and Ramana Reddy in Bachupally on April 21, and they were remanded in judicial custody,' said Bachupally inspector C Satish Kumar.
The case highlights the growing concern over marital discord and the role of extramarital affairs in driving individuals to extreme steps. Police have urged couples to seek counselling and resolve disputes amicably to avoid such tragedies.
