IAF Rider Snatches, Smashes Breathalyser in Pune Drunk Driving Check
IAF Rider Smashes Breathalyser in Pune Drunk Driving Row

In a shocking incident of defiance against law enforcement, a 35-year-old motorcycle rider employed with the Indian Air Force (IAF) allegedly snatched and destroyed a breathalyser during a routine drunk driving check in Pune in the early hours of Sunday.

Confrontation During Routine Check

The incident unfolded around 2.40 am on Sunday at CCD Chowk in the Vimannagar area. Traffic police personnel, including constable Anand Ramchandra Gosavi (48), were conducting standard checks for intoxicated drivers. The rider, who was heading towards his quarters, was stopped by the team.

Officers immediately suspected the man was under the influence of alcohol. Instead of complying with the procedure, the rider reportedly began arguing with the police. He made an unusual demand, insisting that the police should stop every other motorist passing through the chowk for a check as well.

Escalation and Destruction of Equipment

When the police personnel asked him to mind his own business and cooperate, the situation quickly escalated. The accused allegedly started abusing the officers. In a brazen act, he then snatched the breathalyser from Constable Gosavi's hand and violently threw it onto the road.

The device was smashed to pieces, rendering it completely useless. Following this act of destruction, Constable Gosavi later filed a formal complaint with the Airport police station regarding the entire episode.

Multiple Cases Registered Against Accused

Senior Inspector Govind Jadhav of the Airport police confirmed the legal actions taken. "We have registered a case against the motorcycle rider, who is employed with the Indian Air Force (IAF)," stated Jadhav. The charges are serious, encompassing mischief and obstructing a public servant from performing lawful duty.

The police have served the accused with a notice, directing him to cooperate with the ongoing investigation. In a separate but connected action, the traffic police have also filed a drunk driving case against him based on their initial assessment of his inebriated condition.

This incident highlights the challenges faced by traffic police in enforcing road safety laws, especially during night checks. The destruction of government property and obstruction of duty add severe layers to what began as a suspected case of driving under the influence.
