Illegal Gun Unit Busted in Kandhamal District

Berhampur: Police have uncovered an illegal country-made gun manufacturing unit at Labanya Nagar under Tumudibandha police station limits in Kandhamal district on Thursday. The unit was being operated clandestinely in the village.

Arrest and Seizures

Daitari Bindhani (40), a resident of the same village, was arrested for running the illegal manufacturing unit, said Baliguda SDPO Shubham Bhosale on Wednesday. Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted raids at the village and discovered the illegal operation.

From the site, authorities seized three country-made guns, two wooden butts, two iron barrels, four trigger sets, and other equipment. Additionally, tools such as an electric drill, cutter, blower machines, hammers, chisels, wrenches, and many more items were confiscated, the SDPO added.

Crackdown on Illegal Arms

With this operation, police have busted three illegal arms manufacturing units and seized 26 firearms in the past month. The other units were dismantled in Bamunigaon and Gochapada police station areas. During a special drive, ten individuals were arrested for illegally possessing guns, according to the officer.

Breakdown of Seized Firearms

The highest number of firearms, ten, were seized by Tumudibandha police, followed by Gochhapada (4), Daringbadi (3), and two each in Bamunigaon, Belghar, and Raikia police stations. One country-made gun each was seized in Tikabali, Khajuripada, and Phiringia.

The police continue their efforts to curb the illegal arms trade and manufacturing in the region.
