In a brazen attempt to cheat the system, a man was apprehended on Tuesday while trying to appear for a crucial railway examination on behalf of a relative. The incident unfolded at a designated test center in Ranchi, sending a strong message about the vigilance of recruitment authorities.
Biometric Verification Uncovers the Fraud
The arrest took place at the Arunima Infotech exam centre in Lower Chutia, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Namkum police station. According to officials, the imposter was caught during the mandatory biometric verification process for candidates appearing for the Railway Group D examination, conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB).
When the suspect's biometric details were scanned, they did not match the official records of the registered candidate. This immediate red flag prompted the vigilant exam center staff to alert the local police, leading to the swift arrest of the individual.
Identity and Motive Revealed
The police identified the accused as Lalu Kumar, also known as Anish Kumar, aged 33. During interrogation, it was revealed that he had traveled to Ranchi with the explicit purpose of taking the test in place of his brother-in-law, Jawahar Prasad. Prasad is a resident of Gaya district in Bihar.
Manoj Kumar, the officer-in-charge of Namkum police station, confirmed the details. "The accused had come to appear for the examination in place of his brother-in-law. The mismatch was detected during biometric verification, and we were informed. We have arrested the impersonator, and he is currently in our custody," stated the officer.
Consequences and a Stern Warning
This incident highlights the effectiveness of modern security measures like biometric checks in safeguarding the integrity of high-stakes competitive exams in India. The Railway Recruitment Board has been consistently tightening protocols to prevent malpractices.
The arrest serves as a stark warning to anyone contemplating similar fraudulent activities. Authorities have made it clear that such attempts will be met with strict legal action.
