Indian Man Killed While Serving in Russian Army, Family Alleges Coercion
BAREILLY: A tragic incident has emerged from Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh, where a 22-year-old Indian man was killed while serving in the Russian army during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. The family of the deceased, Mohd Shaved from Mawasi village, alleges that he was coerced into military service after initially traveling abroad for employment opportunities.
Body Returns to Rampur Amidst Unanswered Questions
The body of Mohd Shaved reached Rampur on Saturday evening, according to relatives. His brother, Shahvez Ali, stated that the family was waiting for completion of formalities before the remains were handed over. "After completion of the necessary formalities, the body was handed over to us," Shahvez told reporters, adding that they still have no clear information about when or how Shaved was recruited into the Russian military forces.
Senior police officials confirmed the situation in the village remains calm. "The burial has been completed and the situation in the village is normal. We are keeping a watch, but there is no tension at present," said SP Rampur Somendra Meena.
From Employment Search to Military Service
Mohd Shaved had traveled to Russia approximately nine months ago in search of employment opportunities. Initially, he informed his family that he would be working in the steel furniture industry. Relatives reported that things appeared normal during the early stages of his stay abroad, but the situation took an unexpected turn when he ended up joining the Russian army.
According to his brother Shahvez, Shaved was shot while on duty on Thursday and died instantly at the scene. The family has raised serious concerns about the circumstances surrounding his military involvement, suggesting he may have been forced into service against his will.
Disturbing Audio Clip Surfaces
The family's allegations gain support from an audio clip that has surfaced on social media platforms. In this recording, Shaved purportedly describes how his life had been "ruined" and that he was living under extremely difficult conditions. He also suggests in the clip that he had traveled abroad for different kind of work and never expected to be drawn into military service.
Villager Mohd Abid provided context about Shaved's family situation, explaining that the young man had left home specifically to support his family financially. "He was a hardworking man and had gone abroad only to support his family," Abid stated, revealing that Shaved served as the main breadwinner for his household.
Family Struggles and Hopes Dashed
The tragedy has devastated a family already facing significant challenges. Shaved's younger brother, Naved, suffers from mental health issues, while his father, Dulhe Hasan, earns a modest living by selling milk. The family had pinned their hopes for a better future on Shaved's employment abroad, making his death particularly devastating.
This incident raises serious questions about the recruitment practices affecting foreign nationals in conflict zones and highlights the vulnerabilities faced by migrant workers seeking employment opportunities in unfamiliar territories.
