Indore Tragedy: Husband and Wife Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide

A grim scene unfolded in the Pardeshipura locality of Indore on Tuesday morning, where a husband and wife were discovered dead inside their rented residence. The incident, which police are treating as a suspected case of murder followed by suicide, has sent shockwaves through the community.

Teenage Sons Make Heartbreaking Discovery

The tragedy came to light when the couple's two teenage sons returned home after a brief errand. According to police reports, Eknath Wagh, 43, had asked his sons Mohit, 17, and Mayank, 13, to purchase milk from a nearby shop around 8 am. When the boys returned approximately twenty minutes later, they made the devastating discovery of their father hanging and their mother, Rohini Wagh, 38, lying dead in another room.

Police Investigation Points to Financial Distress

Additional DCP Amrendra Singh stated that preliminary investigations suggest Eknath Wagh, who was reportedly struggling with significant financial stress and mounting debt, may have killed his wife before taking his own life. No suicide note was found at the scene, leaving investigators to piece together the circumstances from physical evidence and witness statements.

Senior police officials and a forensic team conducted a thorough inspection of the house. Investigators noted several telling details, including broken bangles near Rohini's body, indicating a possible physical altercation prior to her death. Additionally, police discovered that a cloth had been stuffed into Eknath's mouth, a detail that suggests he may have attempted to muffle any sounds during the incident.

A Family Under Severe Financial Strain

Family members revealed that the Wagh family had been under considerable financial pressure for some time. Eknath, who previously worked as an auto mechanic, had recently shifted to trading in the share market. Despite selling two properties—one in Jeevan Ki Phel for approximately Rs 9 lakh and another in the MR-10 area for about Rs 6 lakh—he continued to face persistent debt issues.

His elder brother, Santosh, confirmed to police that Eknath was under significant pressure due to outstanding loans. The family had been residing in a rented room in the Pardeshipura area for roughly one and a half years. Eknath's two brothers live separately, while his father resides in Ram Nagar.

Neighbors and Family Provide Context

Police are actively questioning neighbors and family members to understand the events leading up to the tragedy. The house owner, who stays on the ground floor, reported no unusual movements or sounds from outsiders during the night. Notably, the couple's children told investigators that the family atmosphere appeared completely normal the previous evening, and they did not witness any arguments between their parents.

This heartbreaking incident highlights the severe consequences of financial distress and mental health struggles within families. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish a definitive timeline and motive for this domestic tragedy.
