In a significant crackdown on narcotics trade, the crime branch of Indore police apprehended a man allegedly in possession of a substantial quantity of MD drugs and an expensive scooter on Wednesday. The arrest was made during a targeted surveillance operation conducted near the government veterinary hospital located on Patthar Godown Road.
Surveillance Leads to Suspicious Activity
According to Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya, a police team on patrol duty noticed two individuals standing with a white scooter in a manner that raised suspicion. As the officers approached them for questioning, one of the men, identified as Amjad, a resident of Khajrana, displayed visible signs of nervousness. This prompted the police to conduct a formal search of the individual and his vehicle.
Seizure of Drugs and Confession
The search proved fruitful, leading to the recovery of 53.39 grams of MD (Mephedrone) drugs. The white scooter, valued at approximately Rs 6 lakh, was also seized by the authorities. During interrogation, Amjad reportedly admitted to his involvement in drug peddling. He confessed that his modus operandi was to purchase narcotics at lower rates and then resell them at significantly higher prices to users across various parts of Indore. His primary motive, as stated to the police, was to earn quick financial gains through the distribution of MD in the city.
Legal Action Under NDPS Act
Following the arrest and seizure, the Indore police have registered a formal case against the accused, Amjad. The case has been filed under the stringent sections 8 and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. This arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by the Indore police to curb the menace of drug trafficking and distribution within the city limits.
