Indore Police Nab Driver in Fatal Rangpanchami Hit-and-Run Case After Intensive CCTV Probe
In a significant breakthrough, Indore police have apprehended a driver responsible for a devastating hit-and-run incident that occurred on the morning of Rangpanchami in the Chhatripura area. The accused, identified as Shah Rukh Lohar, a resident of Green Park Colony, was arrested after a meticulous two-day investigation that involved scanning footage from more than 100 CCTV cameras across the city.
Details of the Tragic Accident and Police Investigation
The accident took place in the early hours near the Silawatpura Ganesh temple, where two youths, Tanveer Khan, 19, and Faizan Mansuri, 22, were standing by the roadside. A fast-moving SUV struck both individuals, leaving them with critical injuries. They were immediately rushed to a private hospital for emergency treatment. Tragically, Tanveer Khan succumbed to his injuries during medical care, while Faizan Mansuri survived but sustained serious wounds.
Following the incident, police launched an extensive manhunt, leveraging surveillance technology to track the fleeing vehicle. Additional DCP Dishesh Agarwal stated that the SUV involved in the crash has been seized as evidence. During interrogation, Lohar revealed that he works as a driver for a resident of Green Palace Colony. On the fateful Sunday, he had driven two people to Bombay Bazaar and was returning when he allegedly dozed off briefly, losing control of the vehicle. Panicked after the collision, he sped away from the scene.
Chase and Arrest of the Accused Driver
A friend of the victims, Irfan, witnessed the accident and attempted to pursue the SUV. He followed it through several areas, including Gangwal, Futi Kothi, and Mhow Naka, up to Chandan Nagar Square. However, he lost track when the driver turned towards Dhar Road and was unable to note the vehicle's registration number at the time.
The police's relentless efforts paid off as they pieced together the suspect's route using the extensive CCTV network. This led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Shah Rukh Lohar. The case highlights the critical role of surveillance technology in modern law enforcement and serves as a stern warning against hit-and-run offenses.
This incident underscores the importance of road safety, especially during festive periods like Rangpanchami, when increased vigilance is necessary to prevent such tragedies.
