In a significant development in the high-profile murder case of Indore businessman Raja Raghuwanshi, two men previously arrested on charges of destroying evidence have been discharged by authorities. This decision follows a comprehensive investigation by Meghalaya Police, which concluded that there was no material evidence linking the duo to the alleged offence.
Details of the Discharge
The individuals involved are Balbir Ahirwar, who worked as a security guard at the building where Sonam, the prime suspect, stayed while evading arrest, and Lokendra Tomar, the owner of that building. They, along with property dealer Shilom James, had been arrested earlier for their alleged roles in the destruction of evidence related to the murder case.
Police Statement on the Matter
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem provided clarity on the situation. He stated, "Balbir Ahirwar and Lokendra Singh Tomar were discharged following the submission of the final investigation report and a second chargesheet in the case against Shilom James. Both individuals had previously been granted bail by a local court in July last year. After a thorough investigation, no evidence was found to support their involvement, and they were accordingly discharged."
Background of the Raja Raghuwanshi Murder Case
Raja Raghuvanshi, a 29-year-old businessman from Indore, went missing along with his wife Sonam on May 23 last year. The couple was visiting Sohra during their honeymoon in Meghalaya when the incident occurred. Tragically, his decomposed body was discovered in a gorge near the Wei Sawdong Falls 11 days later, on June 2, sending shockwaves through the community.
Ongoing Investigation and Allegations
Meghalaya Police have alleged that Sonam conspired with her lover, Raj Kushwaha from Indore, and hired killers to ambush and murder Raja during the trip. A special investigation team is actively probing the case, and several suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues to unfold.
This discharge marks a pivotal moment in the legal proceedings, highlighting the importance of evidence-based conclusions in criminal cases. The focus now shifts to the ongoing probe and the pursuit of justice for Raja Raghuwanshi.
