Indore Crime Branch Arrests Man with Rs 1.3 Lakh Worth of MD Drugs
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Crime Branch of Indore Police made a major arrest on Friday, apprehending a man in possession of a substantial quantity of MD drugs. The operation, conducted near Gulmarg Complex in the Sapna Sangeeta area, led to the seizure of 12.87 grams of MD, with an estimated international market value of approximately Rs 1.3 lakh.
Targeted Check Leads to Arrest
Acting on routine surveillance and heightened suspicion, police officers intercepted the accused, identified as Mohammad Azeem, a resident of Sadar Bazaar. Azeem was found sitting on a two-wheeler at a relatively isolated spot and attempted to evade the authorities, prompting immediate action from the crime branch team.
During initial questioning, Azeem's responses were inconsistent and raised further red flags, leading to a thorough search of his vehicle. Police discovered the 12.87 grams of MD carefully concealed within the storage compartment of his two-wheeler, confirming their suspicions of illegal drug possession.
Seizure and Investigation Details
In addition to the narcotics, the crime branch confiscated Azeem's mobile phone and the two-wheeler used in the offence. The total value of all recovered items, including the drugs, vehicle, and electronic device, amounts to Rs 2,50,000. This comprehensive seizure underscores the severity of the case and the proactive measures taken by law enforcement.
Azeem, who is educated up to Class 12 and works as a graphic designer, was taken into custody following the discovery. During preliminary interrogation, he reportedly admitted to procuring the contraband at lower rates and supplying it to drug users in Indore at inflated prices to generate illegal profits.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Probe
Based on the evidence and seizure, police have registered a case against Mohammad Azeem under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Crime Branch police station. Officials have emphasized that further investigation is actively underway to trace the source of the drug supply and identify other potential links within the distribution network.
This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by Indore Police to combat drug trafficking in the city. Authorities remain vigilant in their surveillance operations, aiming to dismantle networks that fuel substance abuse and related criminal activities. The case serves as a stark reminder of the legal consequences faced by those involved in the illicit drug trade, with law enforcement committed to pursuing all leads to ensure community safety.
