Indore Crime Branch Nabs Two in Major Drug Bust, Seizes MD Worth Rs 1.4 Lakh
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Indore Crime Branch apprehended two individuals near the MR-10 bridge, directly in front of the ISBT bus stand. The operation led to the confiscation of 14.06 grams of the illegal narcotic substance MD, which carries an estimated international market value of approximately Rs 1.4 lakh.
Seizure Details and Arrest Procedure
The illicit drugs were cleverly concealed beneath the seat of a two-wheeler, a tactic often employed by traffickers to evade detection. Alongside the narcotics, authorities also seized the motorcycle used in the operation and two mobile phones. This brings the total value of the recovered property to around Rs 2.5 lakh, underscoring the scale of the bust.
Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya provided insights into the operation, stating that crime branch teams have been actively engaged in discreet intelligence gathering and surveillance. Their primary objective is to identify and take decisive action against those involved in the illegal narcotics trade.
How the Arrest Unfolded
During routine checking and patrolling across various parts of the city, the crime branch team observed two men standing by the roadside near the MR-10 bridge. They were accompanied by a black two-wheeler that notably lacked a number plate, raising immediate red flags.
The suspects' behavior turned suspicious as they appeared nervous upon spotting the police, prompting the team to cordon off the area and detain them for questioning. The individuals identified themselves as Dhirap Singh Tanwar and Lal Singh Chauhan, both hailing from Mandsaur.
Suspecting illicit activities, the police conducted a thorough search of the vehicle. This led to the discovery of 14.06 grams of MD hidden inside the seat. The accused were promptly taken into custody, and a formal case was registered at the crime branch police station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
Background and Confession of the Accused
During preliminary interrogation, Dhirap Singh Tanwar and Lal Singh Chauhan confessed to their involvement in the drug trade. They admitted to procuring the narcotic substance at lower prices and selling it at higher rates to addicts in Indore, aiming to generate profit from this illegal enterprise.
Police investigations revealed that Dhirap studied up to Class 8, while Lal Singh completed his education up to Class 7. Both individuals are primarily engaged in farming, highlighting how drug trafficking can infiltrate various segments of society.
This arrest marks a crucial step in the ongoing efforts by the Indore Crime Branch to combat the narcotics menace, sending a strong message to those involved in such unlawful activities.
