Indore Police Launch Major Overnight Crackdown on Drunk Driving and Traffic Violations

In a significant move to enhance public safety, Indore police conducted an extensive overnight combing and cordon operation, resulting in the apprehension of 180 drunk drivers. This operation sent a powerful message against reckless driving under the influence of alcohol, addressing growing concerns among late-night commuters and families about road safety.

Coordinated Operation Across Crime-Prone Areas

Additional Commissioner of Police Amit Singh revealed that the operation was executed on the intervening night of February 13 and 14, targeting multiple crime-prone pockets throughout the city. Police teams sealed entry and exit points while thoroughly checking vehicles, public spaces, and sensitive areas to ensure comprehensive coverage.

Traffic Enforcement at the Core

Traffic enforcement formed the central focus of the drive, with the 180 drivers caught drunk being charged under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. In total, 360 motorists were penalized for a wide range of violations, including:

  • Modified silencers
  • Illegal number plates
  • Vehicles without proper registration
  • Cars fitted with black films

Several motorcycles were also seized during the rigorous checks, demonstrating the operation's thoroughness.

Emphasis on Public Safety

A senior police officer emphasized that public safety was the primary objective. "Drunk driving puts innocent lives at risk. We are receiving repeated complaints from citizens about late-night racing and reckless behavior. Such action is meant to protect families returning home at night," he stated, highlighting the community-driven nature of the initiative.

Additional Law Enforcement Actions

Beyond traffic violations, police teams executed 162 pending warrants, which included 12 permanent warrants and 45 arrest warrants against absconding accused individuals. The operation also led to:

  1. Cases registered under the NDPS Act against five people found consuming illegal narcotics
  2. 18 individuals booked for illegal liquor sale or public drinking
  3. Two house owners booked under Section 223 of BNS for failing to provide tenant details

Community Engagement and Future Plans

Police conducted a flag march in sensitive areas and held neighborhood meetings to warn residents about drug abuse and cyber fraud. Officers confirmed that coordinated night operations will continue as part of a sustained effort to make public spaces safer and discourage habitual offenders, ensuring long-term improvements in community security.
