Major Drug Bust in Indore: Police Seize 613 Kg Poppy Husk Worth Rs 1.22 Crore
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Agar-Malwa Police in Indore have arrested a commercial container driver and confiscated a massive haul of over 613 kilograms of poppy husk, valued at approximately Rs 1.22 crore. The illicit substance was cleverly concealed inside the vehicle, marking a major victory for law enforcement in the region.
Intelligence-Led Operation on Saturday
The operation was meticulously executed on Saturday after the Kotwali Agar police received specific and actionable intelligence. Authorities were tipped off about a container truck that was allegedly transporting narcotics, hidden among sacks of soya de-oiled cake. This crucial information set the stage for a targeted interception.
The vehicle was reportedly traveling along the Sarangpur–Kanad–Agar route, heading towards Susner. Acting swiftly on the tip, a dedicated police team intercepted the truck at Ganesh Ghati on the Agar–Sarangpur road. The driver, who identified himself as Vikar Singh, a resident of Punjab, was immediately taken into custody for questioning.
Discovery and Seizure of Contraband
Upon conducting a thorough search of the container, police uncovered 31 black sacks containing doda chura, a form of poppy husk, cleverly concealed within the consignment of soya cake. The recovered contraband weighed an exact 613 kilograms and 600 grams, highlighting the scale of the illegal operation.
Police officials noted that the accused, Vikar Singh, failed to produce any valid documents or licenses for transporting the substance, further implicating him in the illicit activity. In addition to the narcotics, the seizure included:
- The container truck itself, valued at approximately Rs 30 lakh
- Two mobile phones
- A sum of cash
- Various other documents related to the shipment
The total estimated value of the haul, combining the poppy husk and the seized assets, amounts to about Rs 1.53 crore, underscoring the financial stakes involved in this drug trafficking network.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
A formal case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Kotwali Agar police station. This legal step ensures that the accused will face stringent charges, reflecting the seriousness of the offense. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover any potential links to larger drug syndicates or accomplices involved in this operation.
This bust is part of broader efforts by Indian authorities to combat drug trafficking, particularly in regions like Madhya Pradesh, where such incidents have been on the rise. The successful interception not only disrupts the supply chain of narcotics but also sends a strong message to traffickers about the vigilance of law enforcement.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing community cooperation in the fight against drug abuse and illegal trade. The Agar-Malwa Police have commended the team involved for their prompt action and dedication, which led to this significant seizure.
