Inquiry Ordered into Firing Death in Shimla

Shimla district magistrate Anupam Kashyap has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of a 26-year-old woman due to celebratory firing during a religious function at Kulgaon village in Shimla's Rohru subdivision on Sunday night.

Inquiry Details

Additional district magistrate (law and order) Pankaj Sharma has been appointed as the inquiry officer. He has been directed to conduct a fair and comprehensive investigation into the death of Ritika and submit his report within seven days. The probe aims to establish the sequence of events, the cause of death, and fix responsibility for the incident.

Scope of Investigation

The inquiry will also examine whether there was any negligence on the part of the organising committee, assess possible violations of the Arms Act, 1959, and identify any administrative or procedural lapses. Based on the findings, appropriate legal and administrative action will be recommended.

Victim and Arrests

Ritika, a resident of Bakora village in Chirgaon tehsil, has left behind two children. Police have registered an FIR for murder and under Section 25 of the Arms Act. The accused, Rajat Sohta, 28, of Rohru Upper Bazar, and Amit Bhapta, 32, of Mandharli village of Rohru, have been arrested.
