Insider Information Fuels Rs 23-Lakh Gunpoint Robbery in North Delhi
In a shocking incident that highlights the dangers of insider leaks, Delhi Police have arrested three individuals for allegedly robbing a transport company employee of Rs 23 lakh at gunpoint near the Shastri Nagar Metro station in north Delhi. The robbery, which occurred on February 23, was reportedly executed based on a tip-off from an insider, leading to a swift police investigation and partial recovery of the stolen cash.
Details of the Robbery Incident
According to police reports, the victim, Kuldeep Sharma, aged 28, had collected the substantial sum of Rs 23 lakh from Keshav Puram and was returning to his office in Kishanganj on a motorcycle. At approximately 7:40 PM, near the metro station, two men on another motorcycle intercepted him. Brandishing a firearm, they threatened Sharma and made off with the bag containing the cash, leaving the employee shaken but unharmed.
CCTV footage analysis revealed a chilling detail: the two robbers had been tailing Sharma throughout his journey, with a third accomplice, later identified as Kalaram from Rajasthan, separating midway. Kalaram remains at large, and police are intensifying efforts to apprehend him.
Police Investigation and Arrests
The breakthrough in the case came on March 9 when police arrested one of the riders, 31-year-old Monu, from Bhalswa Dairy. During the arrest, authorities recovered a pistol, a live cartridge, and Rs 3.95 lakh in cash from his possession. Monu confessed to planning the robbery after receiving insider information about the cash movement, and he also arranged the weapon and motorcycle used in the crime.
Based on Monu's confession, police nabbed another suspect, Sandeep, aged 39, in Mangolpuri on March 19. Sandeep, one of the two riders who accosted Sharma, was found with Rs 5 lakh from the loot. A third man, Sagar, aged 30, was apprehended shortly after, leading to the recovery of an additional Rs 7 lakh.
In total, Rs 15.95 lakh has been recovered so far, as confirmed by a police officer. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accused and recover the outstanding amount of approximately Rs 7.05 lakh.
Criminal Backgrounds and Ongoing Probe
Police investigations have uncovered that the arrested individuals have prior involvement in multiple criminal cases, indicating a pattern of unlawful activities. The insider tip-off aspect of this robbery raises concerns about security breaches within cash-handling operations, prompting authorities to review protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This case underscores the critical role of surveillance technology and swift police action in combating organized crime in urban areas like Delhi. As the investigation continues, police are focusing on tracing the source of the insider information and ensuring all perpetrators are brought to justice.
