Inter-State Burglar Rashid Khan Arrested in Jaipur After Decade-Long Crime Spree
Jaipur police have successfully apprehended a 35-year-old inter-state burglar who had been evading law enforcement across multiple cities and identities for over a decade. The arrest on Friday marks the end of a long trail of break-ins that had consistently frustrated investigators.
Details of the Arrest and Criminal History
Deputy Commissioner of Police, South, Rajarshi Raj Varma identified the accused as Rashid Khan, a native of New Delhi who operated under various aliases including Sonu, Munna, and Bunty. His criminal record spans an impressive 42 cases across Delhi, Rajasthan, and parts of Andhra Pradesh, demonstrating his extensive reach and persistence.
The recent arrest specifically ties him to a high-value burglary reported from Bhagirathi Colony in C-Scheme earlier this year. This affluent neighborhood became the scene of his latest crime on the night of January 28.
The Signature Burglary Method
According to investigators, Rashid Khan developed a distinctive signature approach to his crimes. He would meticulously study neighborhood patterns, identify short windows when houses were empty, and strike within hours. His method involved silent entry, swift execution, and calculated destruction of surveillance equipment.
In the January burglary, a family had stepped out briefly between 6:30 PM and 9:30 PM. Upon their return, they discovered the main door latch snapped, the CCTV camera smashed, and an iron almirah forced open. Jewellery and cash worth lakhs had vanished without leaving any obvious trace.
Police Investigation and Breakthrough
The case, registered at Vidhayakpuri police station under BNS sections, triggered an intensive manhunt, particularly given the location in one of Jaipur's most affluent areas. A special police team began piecing together fragments of evidence using technical data and leads from two earlier arrests in the same case.
What emerged was a familiar name in the criminal database—a man who kept changing his identities but consistently employed the same methods. Police discovered that Rashid was already on the radar of the Delhi Crime Branch and had been detained in connection with another case.
Jaipur police quickly coordinated with their Delhi counterparts and secured his formal arrest on March 17. This inter-agency cooperation proved crucial in finally apprehending the elusive criminal.
Recovery and Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have already recovered a portion of the stolen property, including cash and jewellery worth approximately Rs 25 lakh. Police believe further recoveries and additional arrests may follow as they scrutinize Rashid Khan's network of associates.
