In a significant breakthrough, the Udupi police have arrested three inter-state thieves and recovered gold and silver ornaments valued at approximately Rs 37.87 lakh. The accused were apprehended following a meticulous investigation into a series of burglaries reported in the region.
Details of the Arrest
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ravi (32), a native of Bihar; Suresh (28), from Uttar Pradesh; and Mohan (35), hailing from Karnataka. They were taken into custody from a hideout in the outskirts of Udupi city. Preliminary investigations reveal that the trio was part of a larger network specializing in thefts targeting residential areas and jewelry shops.
Recovery of Stolen Items
Police recovered a substantial haul of stolen property, including gold chains, bangles, earrings, and silver articles. The recovered ornaments are estimated to be worth Rs 37.87 lakh in the current market. The items were found concealed in bags and containers at the suspects' hideout.
Modus Operandi
The gang operated by conducting reconnaissance of potential targets during the day and executing thefts at night. They used basic tools to break locks and doors. The accused confessed to their involvement in over 15 burglaries across Karnataka and Kerala over the past six months.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Senior police officials stated that the arrests were made possible through coordinated efforts between the Udupi district police and intelligence units. The suspects are currently in judicial custody and further interrogation is underway to uncover possible links to other criminal networks.
The police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. They also advised homeowners to invest in security systems to deter such crimes. The recovered ornaments will be returned to their rightful owners after due legal process.
