In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the security establishment, a 45-year-old Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) jawan was shot dead by suspected Naxalites in Jharkhand's Bokaro district on Monday.
The victim, identified as Constable Birsa Munda, was returning home after completing his duty when armed assailants ambushed him near Gomia block. The attack occurred in the evening hours, catching the jawan completely off guard.
Details of the Attack
According to police sources, Munda was traveling alone when unidentified attackers opened fire at close range. The jawan sustained multiple bullet injuries and succumbed to his wounds on the spot. Local residents alerted authorities after hearing the gunshots, but by the time police reached the location, the perpetrators had fled the scene.
Immediate Response and Investigation
Security forces have launched a massive search operation in the surrounding areas to apprehend the culprits. Senior police officials, including Bokaro SP, have visited the crime scene to supervise the investigation.
"We have formed multiple teams to track down those responsible for this cowardly attack," stated a senior police officer. "The area has been cordoned off and we are following several leads."

Constable Birsa Munda, hailing from a tribal community, had served with the IRB for over 15 years. He is survived by his wife and two school-going children. Colleagues describe him as a dedicated and courageous soldier who always performed his duties with utmost sincerity.
