A shocking incident of road rage and assault on a police officer has been reported from Jaipur, where a traffic constable was allegedly deliberately targeted by an SUV driver after performing his duty. The event underscores the rising challenges faced by law enforcement personnel on the streets.
Sequence of Events at Goner Intersection
The incident occurred on December 19 at around 5 pm at the busy Goner crossing, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kho-Nagoriyan police station. A constable from the Jaipur East traffic branch was on duty when he spotted a Bolero vehicle being driven at high speed in a rash manner.
Acting on his responsibility, the constable stopped the SUV and asked the driver to produce his driving licence. Instead of complying with the lawful order, the driver engaged in an argument, refused to show any documents, and sped away from the spot. Following the standard protocol for such violations, the constable proceeded to issue an online challan against the vehicle.
The Deliberate Attack and Aftermath
According to the police investigation, the driver became enraged upon receiving the electronic challan. In a brazen and retaliatory move, he allegedly took a U-turn and returned to the Goner intersection shortly afterward. This time, as per officials, his intent was malicious.
Investigators stated that the driver deliberately rammed his Bolero into the on-duty constable in an attempt to run him over. The constable, identified as Kumar, sustained injuries in this assault. He was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for necessary medical treatment.
In his First Information Report (FIR), Kumar detailed the attack and his injuries. Acting on his complaint, the Kho-Nagoriyan police have registered a case under stringent sections of the law pertaining to assault on a public servant performing duty.
