In a shocking incident that has rattled the peaceful community near Jaipur, a man and woman are fighting for their lives after being deliberately set on fire in Bandolav village under Dudu tehsil. The brutal attack occurred early Saturday morning, approximately 50 kilometers from Jaipur city.
Victims Identified, Condition Critical
The two victims have been identified as Kailash Gurjar (40) and Soni Gurjar (32), both suffering extensive burn injuries according to police authorities. Deepak Khandelwal, DSP of Dudu, confirmed that the critically injured pair are currently undergoing treatment at SMS Hospital, Jaipur's premier medical facility.
Police investigations reveal that the horrific incident took place late at night when the duo were cornered inside a makeshift shed located in the middle of an agricultural field. The assailants reportedly doused both victims in petrol before setting them ablaze.
Desperate Escape Attempt and Rescue
In a desperate bid to save himself, Kailash attempted to reach a water tank nearby but collapsed from his severe injuries. Fortunately, villagers who heard their agonizing cries for help rushed to the scene and managed to douse the flames.
The victims initially received medical attention at a local community health center. However, due to the critical nature of their burn injuries, doctors immediately referred them to SMS Hospital for specialized treatment.
Police Investigation and Detentions
Law enforcement authorities have moved swiftly in response to this brutal crime. Two individuals named by Kailash in his statement - Ganesh and Birdi Chand, both relatives of the woman - have been detained for questioning. A formal case has been registered at Mokhampura police station based on statements recorded from both victims at SMS Hospital.
Preliminary police findings suggest that Kailash and Soni might have been in a relationship that faced strong opposition from both their families. DSP Khandelwal revealed that Kailash is married, while Soni has been a widow for approximately five years and has children.
"There appears to be some kind of tussle between the two families. We will have a better understanding of the details only once the investigation progresses," Khandelwal added.
An anonymous senior police officer disclosed that a proposed love marriage between two members of the families had failed to materialize several years ago, creating lasting animosity and bad blood between the households.
Investigating officers noted that villagers have been hesitant to speak about the incident, complicating evidence gathering. A technical team has been deployed to the crime scene to collect forensic evidence that might shed more light on the precise sequence of events.
As the investigation continues, police are working to determine if there were any eyewitnesses to this brutal attack that has left two people fighting for their lives.
