Jaipur Housewarming Ceremony Ends in Devastating Apartment Fire
A festive housewarming celebration in Jaipur took a dangerous turn on Monday evening when a traditional diya (lamp) left burning after prayers sparked a significant fire in a high-rise apartment. The incident occurred in the Ramnagaria police station area, specifically in flat number 903 on the 9th floor of the 11-storey Bhavya Green building.
Prayers Turn to Peril: The Cause of the Blaze
According to Chandrabhan Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Ramnagaria police station, the flat owner, Deepak Maheshwari, and his family had just performed housewarming prayers upon entering their newly purchased home for the first time. After the ceremony, they departed the premises, inadvertently leaving the diya lit inside the apartment. Authorities suspect this unattended lamp was the primary cause of the fire that ensued.
Emergency Response and Evacuation Efforts
Upon receiving alerts about the blaze, a swift response was initiated. A team from the Ramnagaria police station promptly evacuated all occupants from the multi-storey building to ensure their safety. Meanwhile, firefighters rushed to the scene to combat the flames.
The fire was ultimately extinguished using the building's built-in sprinkler system, which helped prevent the blaze from spreading to other units. Fortunately, no injuries or loss of life were reported, thanks to the efficient evacuation and firefighting measures.
Extensive Damage to the Apartment
While the occupants escaped unharmed, the fire caused substantial damage to the apartment itself. The interior was severely affected, with furniture, air conditioners, and various household items completely reduced to ashes. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential hazards associated with leaving open flames unattended, even during religious or celebratory occasions.
This event underscores the importance of fire safety protocols in residential buildings, particularly in high-rise structures where such incidents can quickly escalate. Residents are advised to exercise caution with any sources of ignition and ensure proper safety measures are in place during ceremonies involving fire.
