Jaipur Police Launch SOS Emergency Feature in Ola Cab App
In a significant move to bolster public safety, the Jaipur city police have integrated an SOS emergency feature into the Ola cab mobile application. This initiative links nearly one lakh vehicles across Rajasthan with the Abhay Command Centre, as confirmed by officials on Wednesday.
Immediate Police Assistance for Vulnerable Passengers
Jaipur police commissioner Sachin Mittal emphasized that the feature is specifically designed to provide immediate police assistance to passengers, with a focus on women, elderly citizens, and children during emergencies. Users can simply press the SOS button while on a ride to alert the police, triggering a rapid response from the nearest police team.
Mittal stated that this step was taken in response to recent incidents involving crimes such as assault, robbery, and theft, which have been allegedly linked to cab drivers and delivery personnel in the city. The integration aims to address these safety concerns proactively.
Real-Time Coordination and Verification Drives
Deputy commissioner of police (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma, who serves as the nodal officer for the project, provided detailed insights. Of the one lakh vehicles connected, 40,000 are operational within Jaipur itself. Under this initiative, the Abhay Command Centre will receive real-time alerts from users and coordinate seamlessly with local police stations to ensure prompt action.
The project has been implemented under the direction of inspector general of police (SCRB) Ajaypal Lamba, highlighting its importance in law enforcement strategies.
Varma also revealed that the city had previously conducted extensive verification drives for cab drivers and delivery personnel. A total of 7,533 cab drivers were verified, with 205 found to have criminal records. These individuals were placed under monitoring, and their details were shared with the respective companies for further action.
Similarly, data on 16,436 delivery personnel associated with various platforms was analysed, leading to the identification of 38 individuals with criminal backgrounds. Police initiated action by informing the concerned companies, ensuring accountability and safety measures.
Broader Efforts for Public Safety
Officials underscored that the integration of the SOS feature is part of broader efforts to strengthen public safety and maintain law and order in Jaipur. This technological advancement represents a collaborative approach between law enforcement and private sector entities like Ola, aiming to create a safer urban environment for all residents and visitors.
The initiative not only enhances emergency response capabilities but also serves as a deterrent against potential crimes, fostering a sense of security among commuters. As urban mobility continues to evolve, such innovations are crucial for adapting to new challenges and ensuring community well-being.
