A horrific accident on a busy Jaipur road Wednesday morning left a trail of injured children, with three fighting for their lives in intensive care. The incident involved a speeding Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) violently colliding with a school van, causing it to overturn and land a shocking distance away.
Violent Collision on Busy VT Road
The crash occurred around 11 am on VT Road in the Mansarovar area. The school van was ferrying children home after an examination when the tragedy struck. According to police, the SUV was coming at a high speed from the direction of New Sanganer Road and smashed directly into the driver's side of the van.
Eyewitnesses described the impact as terrifyingly forceful. The collision was so violent that it caused the school van to flip over and land approximately 60 metres away from the initial point of impact. The sheer force hurled the children inside the vehicle against its interior as it rolled.
Chaos, Rescue, and Critical Injuries
In the immediate aftermath, passersby rushed to the mangled vehicle to help. They managed to pull the trapped children out before police and medical teams could arrive. The injured were first taken to a nearby private hospital by these Good Samaritans.
The medical assessment revealed the severity of the crash. Three children sustained critical injuries and were immediately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). They are battling multiple fractures and head injuries. Two other children suffered less severe injuries and were shifted to the general ward.
The van driver also suffered significant trauma, sustaining a broken leg in the crash. He is undergoing treatment in the general ward alongside the two children. One of the critically injured is the nine-year-old daughter of Anuj Mathur, who told reporters she has head and rib injuries and her condition remains serious.
Driver on the Run and Police Investigation
In a callous act, the driver of the SUV abandoned the badly damaged vehicle at the scene and managed to flee. Teams from the Shipra Path police station and the Accident Police Station (South) reached the spot and registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the absconding driver.
Officer Hari Narayan from the Accident Police Station (South) stated that they have noted the driver's details and are making efforts to trace him based on the SUV's registration number. Both vehicles, severely damaged, were removed from the busy stretch to clear traffic.
This alarming incident adds to the growing list of serious accidents on Jaipur's roads, coming not long after a 15-day special road safety campaign that began on November 4. It underscores the persistent danger posed by reckless and high-speed driving in the city.
