Two Arrested for Setting Jaipur Couple on Fire in Alleged Honour Attack
Jaipur: Two arrested for setting couple on fire

In a shocking incident that has rocked Bandolav village in Jaipur's Dudu tehsil, police have arrested two men for allegedly setting a 40-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman on fire in what appears to be a case of honour-based violence.

The Brutal Attack

According to police officials, the horrific incident occurred on Monday when the accused, identified as Birdi Chand Gurjar (57) and Ganesh Gurjar (41), allegedly followed Soni Gurjar late at night as she was going to meet Kailash Gurjar. The two accused reportedly cut open the fence of Kailash's farmland to gain entry, poured a flammable substance on both victims, and set them ablaze.

DSP (Dudu) Deepak Khandelwal confirmed that the accused fled the scene when Kailash began screaming for help. Local villagers rushed to rescue the burning victims and transported them to hospital for emergency treatment.

Background and Motive

Police investigation has revealed that Kailash Gurjar, who is married, was allegedly in a relationship with Soni Gurjar, a widow, for approximately five years. The accused are reportedly relatives of Soni's in-laws.

The motive behind the brutal attack appears to be linked to longstanding tensions between the families of Kailash and Soni. Police sources indicate that a couple from the two families had entered into a love marriage about a year ago, which both sides disapproved of, leading to a complete breakdown in communication between the families.

When Birdi and Ganesh learned about the alleged relationship between Kailash and Soni, they reportedly became enraged. Officers stated that the accused were aware of the time Soni usually stepped out of her house and followed her with the clear intent to kill both individuals.

Current Status and Legal Action

Both victims remain in critical condition and are currently undergoing treatment at SMS Hospital in Jaipur. The medical team is providing them with intensive care as they battle severe burn injuries.

In his statement to police, Kailash Gurjar named both accused as the perpetrators of the attack. Based on this testimony and other evidence gathered, Jaipur (Rural) police arrested Birdi Chand Gurjar and Ganesh Gurjar on Sunday.

The case has highlighted the ongoing challenges of honour-based violence in certain communities and the extreme measures some family members take to control relationships they consider inappropriate.
