Jaisalmer Family Receives Decade-Long Prison Sentence in Violent Assault Case
A court in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district has delivered a stern verdict in a long-standing family dispute, sentencing four individuals to ten years of rigorous imprisonment. The convicted parties include a mother and her three sons, who were found guilty of assault and outraging the modesty of a relative during a violent altercation nearly seven years ago.
Court Imposes Heavy Fine Alongside Prison Terms
In addition to the decade-long prison sentence, the ADJ Court in Pokhran has imposed a substantial fine of Rs 1,71,000 on the convicted individuals. The verdict was pronounced by Judge Dr Mahendra Kumar Goyal on Monday, bringing closure to a case that has lingered in the judicial system since 2018.
Details of the 2018 Family Dispute Emerge
The case originated from an incident on November 9, 2018, when complainant Prataparam, son of Jadmaram, visited his younger brother Bhagwanaram in Meghrikhasar, Bhaniyana. Bhagwanaram had been injured in a road accident, prompting Prataparam to check on his wellbeing accompanied by family members.
According to the written report submitted at Bhaniyana police station, the visit turned violent when Prataparam encountered his elder brother Khetaram's wife, Kamla, and her sons Chenaram, Pukhraj, and Durjanram. The report alleges that the four "came together and assaulted them, pushed and shoved them, and outraged his wife's modesty."
The complaint further stated that Pukhraj looted Rs 10,000 from Prataparam's pocket during the altercation. Prataparam sustained serious head injuries and two broken teeth in the attack. The situation only de-escalated when nearby residents intervened after hearing screams, ultimately rescuing the victims.
Legal Proceedings and Final Judgment
Following the incident, Bhaniyana police promptly registered the case, arrested all four accused individuals, and presented them before the court. The prosecution built a strong case by producing multiple witnesses and supporting documents during the trial.
After thorough consideration of arguments from both the prosecution and defense, the court found the accused guilty under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The comprehensive sentence reflects the severity of the crimes committed during the family dispute.
