Jaisalmer Man Arrested for Alleged Espionage for Pakistan's ISI
In a significant security breach, a man from Jaisalmer has been arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan's intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The accused, identified as Jabbara Ram, was taken into custody by the Rajasthan CID (Intelligence) on Friday from the Sankra police station area in Jaisalmer. He has been charged under the stringent Official Secrets Act for compromising national security.
Details of the Alleged Espionage Activities
According to officials, Jabbara Ram was honey-trapped by ISI handlers, who allegedly recruited him through a female operative named Muskan. This tactic involved luring him into a relationship to extract confidential information. Investigators claim that he shared sensitive and strategic details related to Indian security forces, including movements of the Army, Air Force, and Border Security Force (BSF).
He was reportedly instructed to send four to five photos or videos every month, capturing critical activities such as Army convoy movements and other strategic operations. The information was allegedly transmitted through digital means, with his mobile phone examination confirming the exchange of strategic data for monetary gains.
Police Remand and Verification Process
After his arrest, Jabbara Ram was produced before a court on Saturday and remanded to police custody for four days. During this period, a Jaipur CID team brought him back to Jaisalmer on Monday for verification purposes. He was taken to multiple locations, including his residence in the Pokhran area, which was searched by authorities. However, no objectionable material was found during the search.
Other sites visited during the verification included Pokhran town and the Gadisar intersection in Jaisalmer city. These locations are believed to be spots from where he allegedly photographed and recorded videos of military activities. The verification process aimed to corroborate the allegations and gather further evidence.
Financial Transactions and Digital Links
Preliminary scrutiny of Jabbara Ram's bank accounts has revealed multiple transactions totaling approximately Rs 70,000. Officials allege that these funds were transferred from accounts linked to the ISI, suggesting financial incentives for his espionage activities. Additionally, he was connected to several local WhatsApp groups, where he is accused of forwarding sensitive information shared within these platforms.
The case highlights the ongoing threats of espionage and the use of honey traps by foreign intelligence agencies to compromise national security. Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the information leaked and any potential accomplices involved in this network.
