Jalandhar Police Crack Down on Arms Smuggling Network

In a significant breakthrough, the Jalandhar Rural Police have apprehended an alleged arms smuggler who was actively involved in procuring illegal weapons from Uttar Pradesh and distributing them across Punjab. The arrest marks a crucial step in curbing the flow of illicit firearms in the region.

Acting on a credible tip-off, police officials set up a naka (checkpoint) and successfully arrested the accused, identified as Suraj Kumar, also known as Ladi. He is a resident of Shekhewal village near Shahkot in Jalandhar district. During the operation, law enforcement authorities recovered five pistols and four live cartridges from his possession, highlighting the seriousness of the smuggling activities.

Investigation and Network Uncovered

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Suraj Kumar was not acting alone. He was allegedly working in collaboration with his associate, Davinderpal Singh alias Deepu, and other gang members. Together, they were involved in sourcing illegal arms and ammunition from the Mathura region of Uttar Pradesh at low prices.

The smuggled weapons were then distributed across Jalandhar and its adjoining areas, posing a significant threat to public safety. The modus operandi involved exploiting price differentials and weak enforcement in certain regions to facilitate the cross-border arms trade.

Ongoing Efforts and Future Steps

SSP Harvinder Singh Virk has stated that further interrogation of the arrested accused is currently underway. The primary focus is on tracing the entire supply chain to identify and apprehend other accomplices involved in this illicit network.

This operation underscores the police's commitment to dismantling organized crime syndicates and ensuring law and order in Punjab. Authorities are intensifying their efforts to prevent such smuggling activities and safeguard communities from the dangers of illegal firearms.
