In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Jalandhar Police have successfully seized movable and immovable properties valued at more than Rs 36.05 lakh, belonging to three notorious drug smugglers. This decisive action targets the financial infrastructure built from illicit drug trade proceeds.
Major Drug Bust Leads to Property Seizure
The case originated on May 20, when law enforcement officials made a substantial recovery of narcotics. Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur confirmed that a case under the stringent NDPS Act was registered following the interception of 2.23 lakh narcotic tablets of Tramadol Hydrochloride USP 100 mg, commonly known as Panadole.
The accused individuals, identified as Nitin Sharma, Ajay Kumar, and Amit Verma, were found in possession of the massive contraband, triggering a deeper investigation into their financial activities.
Following the Money Trail
During the subsequent enquiry, police investigators meticulously traced the flow of illegal money. It was conclusively determined that the accused had purchased property and vehicles using the profits generated from their drug smuggling operations.
Once this financial link was established, the police immediately initiated the legal process for seizing their properties. This move is part of a broader strategy to dismantle the economic foundations of drug networks and cripple their operational capabilities beyond just making arrests.
