Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has intensified the crackdown on drug networks in Jammu and Kashmir, with a sharp focus on dismantling cartels and uncovering their links to terrorist activities. The administration is taking stringent measures to curb the flow of narcotics and disrupt the financial and operational channels that support terrorism in the region.
Public Awareness Campaign
In a bid to mobilize community support, L-G Sinha urged the public to participate in a padyatra scheduled for Sunday, starting from the TRC football ground and concluding at Lal Chowk. The march is part of a broader awareness campaign aimed at educating citizens about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of collective action in combating the drug menace.
Background of the Crackdown
The intensified operation comes in the wake of intelligence reports indicating a strong nexus between drug cartels and terror groups operating in the Union Territory. Authorities have seized large quantities of contraband in recent raids and have arrested several key operatives. The L-G emphasized that the fight against drugs is not just a law enforcement issue but a societal one, requiring active participation from all sections of society.
Sinha also highlighted the role of youth in this campaign, urging them to steer clear of substance abuse and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The administration has set up helplines and rehabilitation centers to assist those affected by drug addiction.
The crackdown has received widespread support from local leaders and community organizations, who have pledged to work alongside the government to eradicate the drug problem. The L-G's firm stance is seen as a significant step towards restoring peace and security in the region.
