Jammu Police Cracks Down on Major Narcotics Network with Cross-Border Links
In a significant law enforcement achievement, the Jammu and Kashmir police have successfully dismantled a long-standing narcotics network with alleged cross-border connections. The operation culminated in the arrest of the notorious gangster and drug kingpin, Gulzar Ahmed, widely known as Lau Gujjar, who had been evading capture for over a decade.
Details of the Arrest and Seizures
Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, Joginder Singh, addressed the media, revealing that Gujjar had been orchestrating bulk narcotics supply across the region for 10 to 12 years. Credible evidence has emerged linking his activities to cross-border networks stretching from Jammu to Punjab and Pakistan, indicating his involvement in an organized criminal and terror nexus. Singh elaborated that Gujjar allegedly procured heroin through drone droppings from across the border.
During the arrest on April 4, authorities recovered a Pakistan-made pistol from Gujjar's possession. Additionally, three of his associates were apprehended, and more than 700 grams of heroin were seized, marking a substantial blow to the illicit drug trade in the area.
Gujjar's Criminal Background and Ongoing Investigation
Gulzar Ahmed is a history-sheeter with multiple criminal cases registered against him at various police stations across Jammu. During interrogation, his associates disclosed that he might be implicated in approximately 100 First Information Reports (FIRs) nationwide, underscoring his extensive criminal footprint.
To ensure a thorough probe, a special investigation team has been constituted to delve deeper into the case. This team will examine the cross-border linkages and the broader implications of Gujjar's network on regional security and drug trafficking dynamics.
