Motorists in Jamshedpur have voiced serious concerns regarding the dangerous behavior of reckless bikers on state and national highways, following two recent fatal accidents that have highlighted the urgent need for improved road safety measures.

In a heartbreaking incident on Wednesday, Akshay Mahakund, a 22-year-old resident of Seraikela-Kharsawan and a student at Rairangpur Medical College in Odisha, tragically lost his life. He was traveling to Mayurbhanj in Odisha on a motorcycle with his father as a pillion rider when they met with an accident on a state highway near Rairangpur. The collision resulted in Akshay's untimely death, leaving the community in mourning.
In another separate and equally devastating accident, 21-year-old Bablu Murmu died when his speeding bike collided with a car near Joyda Bridge on NH-18, according to police reports. These incidents have underscored the lethal consequences of rash driving and the absence of proper safety precautions on busy roadways.

Over the last six months, authorities have reported a distressing trend: more than 12 deaths occur each month on city roads or highways, with many of these fatalities involving helmetless bikers. This alarming statistic has prompted calls for immediate action to curb the rising toll.
DSP (Traffic) Niraj Kumar addressed the situation, stating, "The administration is taking proactive steps to install hi-tech cameras on highways and city roads. These advanced surveillance systems will help track down offenders and enhance enforcement efforts to ensure safer travel for all." This technological intervention aims to deter reckless behavior and hold violators accountable.

Oindrila Datta, a concerned teacher, emphasized, "Under-age driving must be dealt with an iron hand. These bikers, most of whom don't wear helmets, risk not only their own lives but also those of others on the roads. Police must also punish those parents who irresponsibly give bikes to boys and girls without ensuring proper training and adherence to safety norms."
Echoing this sentiment, former IGP Anil Gupta provided expert insight, saying, "Police should intensify vigil over rash and stunt biking on city roads and highways. It is a grave injustice that those who follow safety rules also become victims of those who break them. Authorities must rigorously penalize bikers and pillion riders who fail to wear helmets, as this simple measure can significantly reduce fatalities."
