Jamshedpur: Woman Police Constable Stabbed to Death, Suspect Found Hanging
Jamshedpur: Woman cop stabbed, suspect kills himself

A young woman police constable was brutally stabbed to death in a shocking daylight attack in Jamshedpur, with the prime suspect later found dead by suicide. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the Potka block community in East Singhbhum district.

Daylight Attack on Duty-Bound Officer

The victim, Jyotika Hembrom (25), was on her way to field duty from the local circle office in Potka block when the assault occurred. The attack took place near Chota Sigdi on the Hata-Jaudguda stretch. Locals discovered her body with her scooter parked just a few metres away, indicating the sudden and violent nature of the crime.

Jyotika, a resident of Kalikapur village in Potka block, had joined the police service only in April of this year, making her death a profound loss for the force and her family.

Suspect's Motive and Chilling Video Confession

The alleged assailant, Ganesh Majhi (28) from Jahatu village, was found hanging from a tree near his home mere hours after Jyotika's murder. Before taking his own life, he recorded a brief video message that has since gone viral.

In the video, Ganesh can be heard in a choked voice claiming responsibility. "I was in a relationship with her for nine years. On December 14, I realised she is not interested in me anymore as she is in a relationship with Potka OC Manoj Murmu. I have taught her a lesson and now I will also end my life," he stated. However, the Officer-in-Charge, Manoj Kumar Murmu, has strongly refuted these allegations.

Police investigations reveal a more consistent motive. Ganesh was allegedly pressuring Jyotika to quit her job, marry him, and settle in his village. Her refusal is believed to have triggered the fatal attack.

Police Investigation and Community Shock

Potka police station in-charge, Manoj Kumar Murmu, provided details from initial inquiries. "Jyotika's female colleagues and friends have told us that she was being harassed by Ganesh for quite some time for not agreeing to him," he said. While circumstantial evidence strongly points to Ganesh as the killer, Murmu confirmed that an investigation is examining all possible angles.

The police have recovered both bodies and sent them to the MGMMCH for postmortem examinations. The community and the police department are reeling from the violence, which highlights issues of harassment and fatal retaliation.

This tragic case underscores the dangers faced by women in uniform and the extreme consequences of unresolved personal conflicts turning violent. The police continue their probe to establish a complete sequence of events and motives behind this double tragedy.
