Japanese Tourist Sexually Harassed by Five Youths in Jaipur's Amber Area
In a disturbing incident that has raised safety concerns for tourists in Jaipur, a Japanese visitor was allegedly sexually harassed by five youths in the city's Amber area near Jaigarh Fort. Police confirmed the incident on Monday, stating that the tourist was waylaid on a secluded stretch of road and subjected to physical harassment.
Details of the Harassment Incident
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Karan Sharma, the incident occurred on Sunday morning around 8 am. The Japanese tourist, who had arrived in India from Japan just a few days prior, was visiting Jaigarh Fort and its surrounding hills when she was accosted by five unidentified youths.
The woman reported to police that the youths pushed her around, held her hands, and attempted to kiss her against her will. The harassment took place on a relatively deserted stretch of road in the Amber area, creating a vulnerable situation for the tourist.
Escape and Police Response
After being subjected to the harassment, the tourist managed to raise an alarm and eventually escaped from the spot. She ran toward a security guard stationed nearby, who provided immediate assistance. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to identify the five youths involved.
The case highlights growing concerns about tourist safety in popular heritage areas, particularly for solo travelers and foreign visitors. Jaipur, known for its historic forts and palaces, attracts thousands of international tourists annually, making such incidents particularly alarming for the tourism industry.
Broader Implications for Tourist Safety
This incident follows several similar cases reported in tourist destinations across India, prompting calls for enhanced security measures in heritage sites and popular tourist areas. Authorities are now reviewing security protocols around Jaigarh Fort and other historical monuments in the Amber region.
Police officials have urged tourists to remain vigilant, especially when visiting less crowded areas, and to report any suspicious activity immediately. The investigation continues as authorities work to apprehend the suspects and ensure such incidents do not recur in the future.
