An artisan employed at a jewellery shop in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has been accused of fleeing with gold worth Rs 15 lakh, according to police officials. The incident has prompted an investigation by the Kranti Chowk police station.
Details of the Incident
Sub-inspector Ashok Ingole from Kranti Chowk police station stated that the accused artisan hails from the Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal and had been working at the shop for approximately two years. The shop owner's brother had purchased gold worth Rs 15 lakh and entrusted it to the accused for crafting various products. However, on the night of June 4, the artisan left the shop under the pretext of going out for dinner and failed to return.
The jewellery shop owner and his brother attempted to contact the artisan via his mobile phone, but it was switched off. Sub-inspector Ingole confirmed that a technical investigation is underway, and police teams will be deployed accordingly to track down the accused.
Legal Action Taken
On Saturday night, the Kranti Chowk police registered an offence under Section 316 (4) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita), which deals with criminal breach of trust specifically committed by a clerk or servant. The case has been filed against the absconding artisan.
Authorities are now working to trace the suspect and recover the stolen gold. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
