Jhansi Dowry Death Case: Woman Allegedly Murdered by Husband and In-Laws

A shocking case of alleged dowry death has emerged from Jhansi, where a 23-year-old woman was reportedly murdered by her husband and in-laws. The accused initially tried to disguise the crime as an accidental electrocution, but a detailed postmortem examination revealed the brutal truth.

Victim Identified as Pooja Pal, Mother of Two-Year-Old

The deceased has been identified as Pooja Pal, a native of Datia in Madhya Pradesh. She was married to Dhiraj in April 2022 in Palinda village under the Raksa police station jurisdiction of Jhansi district. Pooja was the mother of a two-year-old daughter, adding to the tragedy of her untimely death.

History of Dowry Harassment and Torture

According to a formal complaint filed by Pooja's family members, she faced continuous harassment and torture from her in-laws soon after her marriage. The harassment centered around dowry demands, which included a cash amount of Rs 5 lakh and a car. The family alleges that this mistreatment was persistent and severe.

A few days before her death, Pooja reportedly called her brother and informed him that she had been brutally assaulted. Her parents intervened at that time, and the matter was temporarily resolved. However, this respite proved to be short-lived.

Suspicious Death and Discovery of Injuries

On Wednesday morning, Pooja's parents received a distressing phone call from her in-laws. They were told that Pooja had died due to an accidental electrocution. Alarmed, the parents immediately rushed to the house.

Upon arrival, they noticed multiple bruises on Pooja's face and head, which contradicted the electrocution story. They raised an alarm as the in-laws were reportedly preparing for her cremation, prompting immediate police intervention.

Postmortem Reveals Signs of Murder

Police officials reached the spot and sent the body for a thorough postmortem examination. The examination was conducted by a panel of doctors, whose findings were crucial in uncovering the crime.

Sources indicated that the post-mortem report revealed clear marks of strangulation on the neck, along with multiple injuries on the face and head. Additionally, signs of electric current were found on the body, suggesting the victim was subjected to severe brutality prior to her death.

Police Register Case Under Serious Sections

Based on the postmortem findings, police registered a case against the husband and his family members on Thursday evening. CO Sadar Ramveer Singh stated that the preliminary investigation strongly suggests murder.

"There were clear marks of strangulation as well as electrocution. An FIR is being registered against the husband and in-laws under serious sections related to dowry death," Singh confirmed. The case highlights the grim reality of dowry-related violence in certain regions.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to gather further evidence and ensure justice for the victim. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for stricter enforcement of anti-dowry laws and greater societal awareness to prevent such tragedies.
