Jhansi Tragedy: Four Teenagers Drown in Prohibited Dam Area Boating Mishap
A devastating boating accident at the isolated Railway Dam near Garia Gaon in Jhansi has resulted in the tragic drowning of four teenage friends. The incident, which occurred on Sunday evening, has left two boys dead, one rescued, and another still missing despite extensive rescue operations.
Fatal Excursion to Prohibited Firing Range
The four Class 11 students from a reputed public school—identified as Shravan Tiwari (19), Shaurya (18), Vedansh Yadav (18), and Atif Mansoori (19)—had left their homes under the pretext of attending tuition classes. Instead, they ventured to the Railway Dam area, a location strictly prohibited to the public as it serves as a firing range for the railway police.
In this isolated zone, the teenagers found an unattended boat and decided to row it themselves. According to preliminary reports, they were engaged in taking selfies and creating social media reels on their mobile phones when the boat suddenly became unbalanced, causing all four to plunge into the water.
Heroic Rescue Attempt and Tragic Outcome
As the boys cried for help, a shepherd passing by noticed their distress and immediately jumped into the river. He managed to rescue Shravan and Shaurya, pulling them to safety. Unfortunately, Vedansh Yadav and Atif Mansoori could not be saved and disappeared beneath the water.
A large police force, along with teams of divers and the fire department, arrived at the scene and conducted search operations late into the night. Despite their efforts, no trace of the missing boys was found initially.
Search Operations Continue with SDRF Assistance
On Monday morning, search efforts resumed with renewed intensity. Divers successfully recovered the body of Atif Mansoori from the dam waters. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team from Jalaun also arrived to assist in the operation, focusing on locating Vedansh Yadav, who remained missing throughout the day.
SDM Sadar Gopesh Tiwari confirmed the recovery of Atif's body and emphasized that the SDRF team continues to search for the other missing teenager. He noted that the area is officially out-of-bounds as a firing range for the Railway Protection Force, and authorities are investigating how and why the boys accessed the prohibited location.
Heartbreaking Viral Video and Personal Tragedies
A chilling 10-second video that has since gone viral on social media shows two of the boys on the boat in the middle of the river. In the footage, Vedansh Yadav can be heard saying, "We have hijacked a boat and now we are enjoying the Railway Dam. I know how to swim and I will swim to safety." Tragically, Vedansh was among those who drowned, and his body had not been recovered at the time of reporting.
The personal tragedies extend beyond the immediate loss. Both deceased teenagers were the only children in their families. Vedansh's mother, a government employee, faces this tragedy as a single parent following the earlier death of his father.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with unauthorized access to prohibited areas and the critical importance of water safety awareness among youth.
