A tragic incident of crime and suicide has shaken the Potka area in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district. A young policewoman was brutally murdered, allegedly by her boyfriend, who later took his own life.
Details of the Heinous Crime
The victim has been identified as Jyotika Hembram, aged 25. She served as a chowkidar (guard) at the Potka police station. The horrific event took place on Tuesday near Chota Sikdi on the Hata-Jadugora Road, where Jyotika was performing her field duty.
According to police officials, the assailant, Ganesh Majhi, who was in a relationship with Jyotika, attacked her with a knife. In a brutal assault, he slit her throat, leading to her immediate death at the scene. Following the murder, Majhi fled from the location.
Police Investigation and Tragic Discovery
Upon launching an investigation into the murder, the police quickly identified the victim's boyfriend, Ganesh Majhi, as the primary suspect. A search operation was initiated to locate him.
However, when the police team finally reached him, they discovered a grim scene. Ganesh Majhi's body was found hanging from the ceiling, indicating he had died by suicide.
Motive Behind the Jharkhand Murder-Suicide
Manoj Kumar Murmu, the officer-in-charge of the Potka police station, provided crucial insights into the possible motive behind this devastating incident. He revealed that Jyotika Hembram had joined her position as a chowkidar only in April of this year.
She was in a relationship with Ganesh Majhi, but had later refused to marry him. This refusal is suspected to be a key reason behind the extreme violence. Furthermore, the officer stated that Ganesh Majhi was unemployed and had been pressuring Jyotika to quit her job and stay at home. Jyotika had refused to comply with his demands, which likely added to the mounting tensions.
The case highlights a deeply troubling pattern of gender-based violence and control, ending in the loss of two young lives in Jharkhand.
