Jharkhand Sisters Rescued in Andhra Pradesh After Mysterious Disappearance
In a dramatic turn of events, two minor sisters from Jharkhand's Pakur district, who had been missing since last week, have been successfully traced and rescued from Andhra Pradesh, approximately 1,500 kilometers away from their home. The police confirmed the development on Friday, revealing that a minor boy from the same school was also with them and has been detained as part of the ongoing investigation.
Timeline of the Disappearance and Rescue
The sisters went missing on January 27 while they were on their way to school, sparking immediate concern among their family and local authorities. According to Maheshpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Vijay Kumar, the girls had left home accompanied by a minor boy from their school, adding a layer of complexity to the case.
Upon realizing their absence, the father of the girls promptly reported the matter to the local police station. This led to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) and the launch of an intensive search operation involving district police and other relevant authorities.
Police Investigation and Coordination Efforts
Speaking about the investigation, SDPO Vijay Kumar stated, "We started the investigation immediately after we received the complaint. We coordinated with the Railway and district police in southern India. Based on technical inputs, we finally located the minors near Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. They were moving towards Chennai via train."
A dedicated police team worked in close coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Nellore, leading to the apprehension of all three minors. The officer further elaborated, "The boy, who was also a minor, has been detained, and all legal procedures and the medical tests were already completed on Friday itself." Both sisters are currently in police custody, with further legal formalities underway.
Family Allegations and Police Clarifications
Initial suspicions from the family pointed towards a possible involvement of a school teacher in the disappearance. However, police investigations have not found evidence to support this claim. "On the father's allegation against the school teacher, police said there was no evidence to corroborate this and that the teacher was at home when contacted during the investigation," the officer clarified, aiming to dispel rumors and focus on factual findings.
Next Steps and Unanswered Questions
The minors are expected to be brought back to Jharkhand in the coming days. "All the minors are likely to be brought back to Jharkhand in the next two to three days due to travel time and after the completion of the legal formalities," the SDPO explained. The motive behind their journey towards Chennai remains unclear, with authorities stating, "It will be clear once they return to Pakur."
This incident highlights the critical role of inter-state police coordination and technical surveillance in resolving missing persons cases, especially involving minors. The rescue operation underscores the importance of swift action and community vigilance in ensuring the safety of children across India.
