Jharkhand Woman Sold for Rs 3 Lakh, Rescued After Childbirth

A woman from Jharkhand was allegedly sold for Rs 3 lakh and kept in captivity in Delhi, where she gave birth to a child. The Delhi Police rescued her and arrested the accused, officials said on Thursday.

Details of the Incident

The woman, a resident of a village in Jharkhand, was lured with the promise of a job and brought to Delhi. She was then sold to a man for Rs 3 lakh and forced to live as his wife. The accused kept her confined in a room in the Shahbad Dairy area of outer Delhi.

During her captivity, the woman became pregnant and gave birth to a child. She was not allowed to contact her family or seek medical help. The police received a tip-off about her plight and conducted a raid to rescue her.

Police Action

Acting on a complaint, a team from the Shahbad Dairy police station raided the premises and rescued the woman and her newborn. The accused, identified as Rajesh, was arrested on charges of human trafficking, illegal confinement, and rape.

Police said the woman has been sent to a shelter home for medical care and counseling. Efforts are being made to trace her family in Jharkhand and reunite her with them.

Rising Cases of Human Trafficking

This incident highlights the growing menace of human trafficking in the country. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), thousands of women and children are trafficked every year for forced labor, sexual exploitation, and forced marriages.

Police have urged people to be cautious while accepting job offers from unknown persons and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
