An 18-year-old youth in Jharkhand allegedly strangled his 18-year-old girlfriend and buried her body on the banks of the Kanchi river in Ranchi after he saw her with another man and suspected infidelity, police said on Monday.
Incident and Arrest
The incident occurred on June 17, but the body of Hissi Kumari was recovered on June 23. The accused, Chetan Munda, was arrested on Saturday, according to police. The victim's mobile phone was recovered from the accused, said Ranchi (Rural) SP Gaurav Goswami.
Motive and Confession
During interrogation, Munda told investigators that on June 12, he had seen his girlfriend with another man from the village. On June 17, he called her near the riverside, where they argued. The woman told him she did not want to continue the relationship. In a fit of rage, Munda strangled her to death and buried her body in a 6-foot-deep pit on the river bank, the police officer said.
Legal Proceedings
The accused has been arrested and is being interrogated further. The police have recovered the victim's mobile phone, which is a key piece of evidence. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
