Jharsuguda Man Dies After Living with Decomposed Wife's Body for Days

In a shocking incident in Jharsuguda district, police rescued a man on Friday evening who had been living with the decomposed body of his wife for three to four days. The man, identified as Gobinda Bhoi, 61, died moments after being taken to a hospital, adding a tragic twist to the case.

Discovery of the Decomposed Body

Sub-divisional police officer Chintamani Pradhan from Brajarajnagar reported that the decomposed body of Rukmini Bhoi, 55, was recovered from their home at Hanuman Mandir Pada in Sanjobgram, under the Orient police station limits. Her husband, Gobinda Bhoi, was found unconscious at the scene and was immediately shifted to a hospital in Brajarajnagar. Unfortunately, he died shortly after treatment began, deepening the mystery surrounding the deaths.

Background of the Couple

Sources revealed that Gobinda, a retired coal mine employee who left his job last year, and his wife Rukmini had no children. Neighbors noted that they had not seen the couple step out of their house for approximately four days, raising concerns about their well-being.

How the Incident Unfolded

The grim discovery was made on Friday when Gobinda's sister-in-law came to visit them. After repeatedly knocking on the door, Gobinda eventually opened it. He then walked into the room where his wife's body was lying and collapsed, indicating the severe distress he was under.

Inside the house, police found food cooked but untouched in the kitchen, and a foul smell made entry difficult. This suggested that the couple had prepared a meal but never consumed it, possibly due to the tragic events unfolding. Vomit was also spotted near the room, and cooked rice had dried on the stove, pointing to a period of neglect.

Police Response and Investigation

Police were informed soon after the discovery and quickly shifted Gobinda to the hospital. After his in-laws arrived, officers completed the necessary procedures, including securing the scene and initiating an investigation.

A forensic team visited the spot to collect samples, and the bodies were sent for postmortem examination. Police are probing the cause of deaths from all possible angles, including any potential foul play. Sub-divisional police officer Chintamani Pradhan stated, "We are probing the case from all possible angles," emphasizing the thoroughness of the inquiry.

Ongoing Investigation

Further investigation is underway, with police noting that the exact cause of deaths will only be known after they receive the autopsy reports. This case has highlighted a domestic tragedy in Jharsuguda, leaving the community in shock and authorities working diligently to uncover the truth behind these unfortunate events.
