Juhu Police File FIR for Abusive Comments on BJP MLA's Posts

MUMBAI: The Juhu Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against three individuals for making derogatory and abusive comments on social media posts of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ameet Satam. The legal action was initiated based on a complaint lodged by corporator Anish Makwani.

Details of the Incident

According to the complaint, Satam had shared videos on Instagram showcasing developmental work undertaken in his constituency. Subsequently, two social media users posted derogatory and abusive remarks on these posts. In addition, an unknown person sent abusive text messages to Satam via WhatsApp.

Police Action

Upon learning about the offensive comments and messages, corporator Makwani approached the Juhu Police on May 30 to file a formal complaint. The police promptly registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act for cyber harassment and defamation.

The authorities have launched an investigation to identify the accused individuals. The police are also examining the digital evidence, including the Instagram posts and WhatsApp messages, to trace the perpetrators.

This incident highlights the growing concern over online harassment and the need for stricter enforcement of cyber laws to protect public figures from targeted abuse.
