A 17-year-old juvenile has been detained for the repeated sexual assault of two minor girls, aged seven and eight, in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. The incident came to light on May 27, and the boy was taken into custody within two days. However, the case escalated after the survivors' mothers alleged a biased investigation, citing perceived VIP treatment when the boy's mother was allowed to bring him food at a Samvedna Centre before his transfer to a juvenile correction home.
ASI Removed for Attempted Compromise
Bilaspur Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajnesh Singh removed an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from duty for allegedly trying to broker a compromise between the families, who are neighbors. SP Singh confirmed to TOI that an official probe has been initiated into separate bribery allegations against officers.
Investigation Reassigned for Transparency
To ensure fairness, the investigation has been handed over to a female Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and is being reviewed by specialized units for crimes against women. SP Singh acknowledged that lodging a single FIR for both survivors was a mistake and assured that two separate chargesheets will be filed in court.
Discovery of the Crime
The assault was first discovered by an elderly local woman who caught the juvenile in the act, claiming he had tied the girls with ropes. Medical examinations have confirmed the assault. SP Singh noted that conflicting claims from the families have complicated the case but said it will be resolved within a day or two.
