Man Externed Under Kaapa Arrested for Attempted Murder in Thiruvananthapuram
In a significant law enforcement action, police in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly attempting to murder a private bus employee at Kallambalam junction. The accused, identified as Abhijith from Ottoor, Vettimankonam, had been previously externed from the district for eight months under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, commonly known as Kaapa, on July 16.
Violation of Externment Order Leads to Arrest
According to authorities, Abhijith allegedly violated the externment order by returning to the district, leading to the recent incident. The attack occurred on Sunday night when he reportedly assaulted the bus employee in what police describe as an attempted murder. The exact motive behind the assault remains under investigation, with officials yet to confirm the reasons.
Following the incident, a dedicated police team led by Kallambalam Station House Officer Gopakumar initiated a thorough probe. Through diligent efforts, they successfully tracked and apprehended the accused. Police revealed that Abhijith is implicated in approximately eight criminal cases, including previous attempt to murder charges registered at Kallambalam, Kadakkavoor, and Varkala police stations.
Legal Proceedings and Custody
A formal case has been registered against Abhijith for attempt to murder and for violating the Kaapa externment order. After his arrest, he was produced before a local court, where he was remanded to judicial custody. The arrest was executed by a team comprising Sub-Inspector Sunilkumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Irshad, and Senior Civil Police Officers Aseem and Aneesh.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts by Kerala police to enforce Kaapa regulations and combat criminal activities in the region. The externment under Kaapa is a preventive measure aimed at curbing anti-social behavior, and violations are treated with strict legal action.
