Kadakkavur man arrested for assaulting sanitation worker

Kadakkavur police on Wednesday arrested a 51-year-old man for allegedly assaulting and verbally abusing a Haritha Karma Sena worker while she was on duty. The accused has been identified as Raju, a resident of Kadakkavur.

Incident Details

According to police, the incident occurred at Nediyavila residential area around 11am on Saturday. The worker, Saritha Kumari, was collecting waste from households when the accused allegedly began hurling abuses at her. As she continued her work and proceeded to collect plastic waste from nearby houses, Raju allegedly followed her and continued verbally harassing her.

Police said Kumari repeatedly asked him to stop, but the accused allegedly persisted. He reportedly followed her through the residential area and later assaulted her, striking her on the face and head.

Injuries and Response

The woman sustained injuries in the attack and was shifted to a private hospital for treatment. Residents alerted police, who rushed to the spot. However, by the time officers arrived, the accused had managed to flee.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

Based on Kumari’s complaint, police registered a case and launched a search for the accused. Raju was later traced to his native place, and police took him into custody. Following interrogation, he was produced before a local court and remanded in judicial custody.
