Kadapa District Administration Implements Preventive Detention Act Against Three Chronic Offenders

The district administration in Kadapa has taken decisive action by invoking the Preventive Detention Act against three individuals identified as seasoned offenders with extensive criminal histories. This significant move comes in response to recommendations from the district police wing, aimed at curbing persistent criminal activities in the region.

Three Offenders Targeted Under PD Act Provisions

The individuals subjected to the Preventive Detention Act include Kavati Aruna from Pulivendula, Thonda Posamma from Gokavaram in East Godavari district, and Thonda Pothuraju. These offenders have accumulated a staggering number of cases against them, demonstrating patterns of repeated criminal behavior despite multiple arrests and releases on bail.

Kavati Aruna is implicated in 16 separate cases of theft, while Thonda Posamma faces charges in 27 criminal cases. Most notably, Thonda Pothuraju has an alarming record of 56 cases registered against him, highlighting his status as a particularly persistent offender within the district.

Police Recommendation Leads to Administrative Action

The Preventive Detention Act is specifically designed to address anti-social elements and troublemakers who pose ongoing threats to public safety. The legislation targets various categories of criminals including drug peddlers, robbers, rowdy sheeters, land grabbers, and human traffickers.

Kadapa Superintendent of Police Shelke Nachiket Vishwanath formally forwarded a proposal to District Collector Sridhar Cherukuri recommending the invocation of the PD Act against these three individuals. After thorough consideration of the police recommendation and the offenders' extensive criminal records, Collector Cherukuri approved the proposal late on Tuesday.

Immediate Enforcement Through Prison Authorities

Following the district collector's approval, the enforcement order was promptly forwarded to the authorities at Kadapa Central Prison for immediate implementation. This swift administrative action demonstrates the district's commitment to utilizing legal provisions to address repeat criminal behavior that has persisted despite conventional law enforcement measures.

The invocation of the Preventive Detention Act represents a strategic approach to dealing with offenders who have repeatedly returned to criminal activities after being arrested and released on bail. By preventing their immediate return to society, authorities aim to disrupt ongoing criminal patterns and enhance public safety in the Kadapa district region.
