Doctor Nabbed in Kalyan After Six-Month Hunt for Rs 70 Lakh Pharmacy Scam
In a significant breakthrough, a doctor accused of orchestrating a massive financial fraud in Kalyan has been arrested after evading authorities for half a year. The accused, identified as Dr Prasad Yadavrao Sali, was taken into custody on Monday by a police team from the Khadakpada station, led by assistant police inspector Vijay Gaikwad.
Details of the Alleged Scam
According to officials, Dr Sali and his wife, Vaishali Prasad Sali, allegedly duped multiple individuals of nearly Rs 70 lakh by promising lucrative returns through a pharmacy venture. The couple is accused of collecting substantial sums from victims before abruptly cutting off communication, leaving them in financial distress.
The case came to light when a complaint was filed on September 13 last year by Pragya Kamble and Dr Rahul Dubey, who claimed to have been cheated. During the investigation, police uncovered that several others had fallen prey to similar deceptive tactics, indicating a broader pattern of fraud.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Following his arrest, Dr Sali was produced before a Kalyan court, which remanded him in police custody until Friday. This development marks a crucial step in the ongoing probe, as the accused had been on the run since their anticipatory bail plea was rejected six months ago.
Investigating officer Vijay Gaikwad stated, "After sustained efforts, we have arrested the main accused. A special team has been formed to trace his wife, and she will be apprehended soon." The police are now delving deeper into the case to determine the full extent of the fraud and identify any additional victims who may have been targeted.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Impact
The arrest has brought relief to the affected community, but concerns remain as Vaishali Prasad Sali continues to evade capture. Authorities are intensifying their search efforts, emphasizing the importance of holding all perpetrators accountable in such financial crimes.
This incident underscores the need for vigilance against investment scams, particularly those involving professional credentials. Police urge the public to report any suspicious activities and verify business opportunities thoroughly to avoid falling victim to similar schemes.
