A tragic incident in Kanpur has resulted in the death of a 14-year-old boy, who allegedly jumped from the ninth floor of a residential building after being reprimanded for not completing his school homework. The event occurred late on Tuesday evening in the city's Sinhpur area, sending shockwaves through the local community.
What Triggered the Extreme Step?
According to police officials, the sequence of events began when the boy's tutor found his homework incomplete. Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Ashutosh Kumar stated that the tutor scolded the teenager for this. The situation escalated when the boy's grandmother also admonished him, criticising him for spending the entire day on his laptop instead of finishing his academic work.
Angered and presumably overwhelmed by the consecutive reprimands, the boy hurried to the balcony of the ninth-floor apartment. In a moment of extreme distress, he jumped from the great height. Family members and the tutor, realizing what had happened, immediately rushed to his aid.
Rushed to Hospital and Police Investigation
The teenager was quickly taken to a nearby hospital in Sinhpur. However, the fall proved fatal. Doctors at the hospital pronounced him dead on arrival, leaving the family and community devastated.
Following the incident, the Nawabganj police and a forensic team reached the scene to collect evidence and begin their investigation into the circumstances leading to the death. As part of the standard procedure, the police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Family Accusations Emerge Amid Grief
As the investigation proceeded, a new dimension emerged at the post-mortem centre. The boy's mother arrived and, in her grief, made serious allegations. She accused her husband and her in-laws of being responsible for her son's death, effectively calling it a murder. These allegations add a layer of complexity to the tragic case, which the Nawabganj police are now tasked with investigating thoroughly.
The incident highlights the immense pressure faced by students and raises critical questions about mental health, academic stress, and familial dynamics. It serves as a grim reminder of the potential consequences when young individuals feel cornered and see no way out. The police continue to probe all angles of this heartbreaking event in Kanpur.
